Bhramari Pranayama — My Go-To Fix When I Am Tired or Stressed

Whenever I feel tired, overwhelmed or low on energy — this is the one thing I go to. Five minutes of Brahmari pranayama and I feel like a completely different person. No equipment, no cost, no special place needed. Just you and your breath.

What is Brahmari Pranayama?

Brahmari is a humming breathing technique from yoga. The word comes from the Sanskrit word for honeybee — because the sound you make resembles a gentle hum. It instantly calms the nervous system, boosts energy and clears all the ear passages. I have been doing this for years and it has never once failed me.

How I Do It

Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and follow this simple progression:

  • Round 1 — Short hum: Inhale deeply, then hum for a short duration — as long as feels comfortable to start.
  • Round 2 — Medium hum: Inhale again, this time hum for a medium duration, a little longer than the first.
  • Round 3 — Long hum: Inhale fully and hum for the longest duration you can — push it gently without straining.
  • Then reverse: Long hum → medium hum → short hum. Come back down the same way you went up.

That is one full cycle. Repeat two to three times for best results.

What It Does

  • Instant calm — the vibration of the hum soothes the nervous system immediately
  • Energy boost — you will feel noticeably more alert after just a few rounds
  • Clears all ear passages — the internal vibration gently opens up blocked ear canals
  • Relieves stress and mental fatigue faster than almost anything else I know

The next time you feel tired or scattered — before you reach for chai or your phone, try this. Five minutes. I promise you will feel the difference.
