5 Things I Always Keep Ready in My Kitchen (That Make Cooking Faster)

One of my biggest kitchen rules — always be one step ahead. I keep five things ready in my fridge or freezer at all times. They take minutes to prepare once, and save me hours across the week.

1. Peeled Garlic — Good for Up to a Week

Peel a full batch of garlic in one sitting and store it in a small airtight box in the fridge. It stays fresh and ready to use for up to a week. No peeling every time you cook — just grab and go. A small thing that makes a noticeable difference every single day.

2. Tamarind Dates Chutney — Stored in the Freezer

Make a big batch of tamarind dates chutney and freeze it in small portions. It thaws quickly and tastes exactly the same as fresh. Perfect for chaats, snacks, and unexpected guests. Make it once, enjoy it for a month.

3. Roasted Peanuts — Always in the Fridge

Roast a large batch of peanuts and store them in an airtight jar in the fridge. They stay fresh and crunchy for weeks. Ready to add to chaats, salads, chutneys, or just for snacking. Roasting in bulk means you never run out at the wrong moment.

4. Tomato Basil Sauce — Fridge Ready

A jar of homemade tomato basil sauce in the fridge is a lifesaver on busy days. Use it as a pasta sauce, pizza base, sandwich spread, or a quick dip. It keeps well for up to a week and turns a rushed meal into something that tastes like effort.

5. Red Chilli Oil

A small jar of red chilli oil sitting in your fridge adds instant flavour to anything — stir-fries, noodles, bread, dals. Once you have it ready, you will find yourself reaching for it every day. Make it in ten minutes, use it for weeks.

Preparation is not extra work — it is what makes cooking feel easy. Store these once, and your kitchen will thank you all week long.
