These are not tips I read in a book. These are things I actually do, every single day — tried, tested, and refined over fifteen years in the kitchen. Small habits that make a big difference.
1. Rinse Every Tool and Appliance Jar Right After Use
The moment you are done with your peeler, grater, strainer, mixer jar, blender, or chopper — rinse it immediately. Just water, no soap needed right away. This removes all food residue before it dries and sticks. You can do a proper wash later, but that quick rinse keeps your tools clean for life. Dried food residue is the number one reason kitchen tools start looking old and stained within months. This one habit prevents all of that.
2. Store Coriander, Mint and Curry Leaves in Tupperware With Tissue
Wash and dry your coriander. Place a tissue at the bottom of a Tupperware box, layer the coriander on top, and cover with another tissue before closing the lid. Store in the fridge. The tissues absorb excess moisture, preventing the leaves from turning black or slimy. Your coriander stays fresh and green for up to two weeks. The same method works perfectly for mint and curry leaves.
3. Store Wet Masalas Together in a Tray Organiser
Garlic, ginger, lemon and green chillies — I store each in a separate small box to keep them fresh and prevent cross-flavouring. All four boxes sit together in one tray organiser inside the fridge. When I cook, I pull out the entire tray at once. Everything I need is right there, together. No opening and closing multiple sections of the fridge, no searching. One pull, everything ready.
Simple systems, done consistently — that is what keeps a kitchen running smoothly every single day.
